Marcia Maritza Robiou is a filmmaker and investigative reporter based in New York City. Since 2018, she has worked with PBS Frontline, where she strives to tell deeply reported stories in a way that is artful and visually resonant. Her work is focused on exposing betrayals of the public trust and holding abuses of power to account. Born in Newark, N.J. to Dominican parents, she is also interested in stories that explore the psychic toll of displacement.
Before becoming a filmmaker, Marcia was an aid worker. She protected civilians fleeing ISIS-held territories in Iraq, evacuated South Sudanese journalists to safety during the civil war, and covertly documented the conditions of Myanmar’s political prisoners.
She is an advocate of showcasing and preserving films from underrepresented countries. Her most joyful cinema experience was in Cairo, Egypt, where intermissions are still standard.
She is a graduate of New York University and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
